While everyone is hoping and praying that Bret Michaels fully recovers from a massive hemorrhage near his brain stem, friends tell me that -- no matter what the outcome -- Bret's life will change forever.
"Bret is a fighter and is going to win this battle. But after you stare death in the face, it changes you forever and this is going to change Bret," a friend of the rocker tells me.
"When all this is complete, you can bet Bret will say goodbye to the rock star lifestyle and focus on what means the most to him -- being a great dad."
"This has scared the hell out of all of us and none of us will ever be the same," Bret's friend explains. "No matter how rich or famous you are, this makes it clear that we are all human."
The Poison singer suffered a "massive subarachnoid hemorrhage" late Thursday evening and was rushed to the hospital, where he was quickly put in intensive care. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location with slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness.
"He is lucky to be alive, and if God gives him another chance you can bet he isn't going to waste it," says a source close to Bret.
According to Michaels' Facebook page, he "remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance. Further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding."
"Please remember Bret is, and always has been, a fighter and survivor and is under the best medical care possible," the update added.
Just before his hospitalization, Michaels wrote on his blog that he still wasn't felling well after undergoing an appendectomy on April 13.
"I'm not 100% yet ... I have to get my blood sugar back in order, because it's been all over the place because every day I've been real active and you're not supposed to move around yet."

Vegan diet and nutrients
Vegan diet and nutrients
A vegan diet can be balanced and healthy, but requires an extra effort to do because it forces you to give up the nutrients in foods of plant origin
The nutrients to balance the vegan diet are available including a variety of grains, fruits and vegetables. Vegans should strive to get enough iron, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B12.
Iron. It is important for blood. Can be obtained from grains, seeds, soy foods, fortified breakfast cereals and green leafy vegetables like spinach.
Vitamin C. Promotes the absorption of iron. It is obtained from citrus fruits, and tomatoes.
Calcio. The truth is that the best sources of calcium are dairy products. But for the vegan foods are fortified with calcium such as soy products, orange juice, cereals and cereal bars. And as natural foods are almonds, figs, parsley, oatmeal, soy flour, wheat bread, Brazil nuts and kale.
Vitamin D. It is necessary for strong bones. If you live in cold weather you must take care to obtain sufficient quantities of this vitamin, they need sunlight for their production. Soy milk is a great source of vitamin D.
Vitamin B12. Only be obtained through foods of animal origin, so that you can only get it from plant form of soy milk and cereals fortified with vitamin B12 and yeast flakes.

Sources: New US Commander for Iraq

Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- The senior U.S. general in Iraq since 2008, Gen. Ray Odierno, will be succeeded by a leading Pentagon general at the end of the summer, military officials said Monday.
His replacement is Army Lt. Gen. Lloyd Austin III, the staff director for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the officials said.
Military officials spoke about the change on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not been made.
Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell said Defense Secretary Robert Gates has not yet made a recommendation to the White House for Odierno's successor.
Odierno took over command in Iraq from Gen. David Petraeus. He has served in various senior Army positions in Iraq since 2006. Odierno is less well known, although he cuts an imposing figure at more than 6 feet tall, burly and bald.
He plans to remain in Iraq through the drawdown of U.S. combat forces by September. Odierno then takes over Joint Forces Command, which trains forces from all branches of the military to work together.
Odierno's son, Lt. Anthony Odierno, lost an arm while leading a patrol in Iraq in 2004.
